Members of Purple Shelves at the Special Correctional Centre for Boys in Oregun, Lagos

Our visit to Two Special Correctional Centres in Lagos courtesy Janet Chinenye Eze x #1kNewReadersYearlyCampaign

On the 29th of January 2022, we were out and about Lagos.

As you know by now, we’re big on charity at Purple Shelves. So, in collaboration with our author Janet Chinenye Eze, we visited the Special Correctional Centre for Girls in Idi-Araba and the Boys’ Correctional Centre in Oregun. We did not just go alone, we went with friends too, like Nollywood Actor, Vocalist, and Voice Over Artist, Casey Edema.

During the visit, we got to talk to and with the juvenile inmates as well as read to them. At the Special Correctional Centre for Girls, Janet offered words of hope to the girls, especially with regard to coping with isolation and rising above life’s storms. And at the Boys’ Correctional Centre, Casey Edema inspired the boys to find their purpose.

Sadly, we do not take or post pictures of juveniles or orphans, but we made a video of our visit.

We left both centres all sobered up and determined to do more.
